Ptl5blog

In our previous Path to Launch blogs, we have revealed some exciting things coming to Firefall in the upcoming update, including improvements to our core systems, and some of the new content that we are adding. However, there is one topic that the community has been asking about for months that we have yet to touch on: the expansion of the world of Firefall. This week we are thrilled to talk about how we’re increasing our playable space by expanding both New Eden and Devil’s Tusk (formerly known as Diamondhead), as well as some new content that goes along with that expansion.

Sertao

“New Eden” as you currently know it only contains “Coral Forest,” which makes up only half of the entire region. We are excited to finally be adding in the second half, known as “Sertao,” which contains a few areas that some of our long-term players will recognize. Coral Forest will contain level 1 to level 24 areas, while Sertao goes from level 25 to level 36. Sertao also contains two distinct major biomes, each with its own unique array of creatures, as well as its own array of ARES Jobs, ARES Missions, and dynamic events.

Sertao and Coral Forest are two separate zones, but since they are adjacent, there is no Melding wall between them, and transferring from one to the other is as easy as simply walking between them. There will be a very short loading screen when transferring from one zone to the other, and we will continue working on making it a more seamless experience.

Enough words! Here is what you really want: some screenshots of the major areas in Sertao.

Orbital Comm Tower (OCT) is also the site of Sertao’s major “Chosen War” event. The Chosen, aware of the strategic importance of OCT, will occasionally launch large scale assaults on the facility, complete with a Chosen boss, Strifebringers, and maybe even a Darkslip -- it will require the cooperation of everyone in the area to hold them off.

Devil’s Tusk

Devil’s Tusk (formerly known as Diamondhead) will be the endgame PvE zone at launch, housing all of our level 37-40 content. Some of you will remember that we’ve talked about Devil’s Tusk, including the majority of the Chosen Warfront, along with an encounter to push back the Melding in stages -- those things are still true. However, we’ve also added a few other exciting things to the zone, one of which we’ll cover later in this blog.

Devil’s Tusk is a large open zone, approximately the same size as Coral Forest, fully populated with its own ARES Jobs, ARES Missions, and dynamic events. We don’t want to spoil the whole zone or its content for you, but here are a few screenshots for you to enjoy.

Melding Pushback and Raid

When Devil’s Tusk is first added to the game, the entire zone will not be accessible immediately. It will take a community-wide effort to push back the Melding in stages and unlock more playable space. Each stage of the pushback will require the use of a different, unique resource that can be gained by thumping or doing missions in the different areas of Devil’s Tusk. Once enough resources are donated, the repulsor is activated and, after a “charging” period, permanently pushes back the Melding revealing more playable space, plus another piece of instanced content (the first two of which we will discuss in a later blog). This pushback is global and synced between all shards.

Once all three stages of the pushback are completed, the ability to play through the entire take back as a 20-player instanced raid will be unlocked. In this raid, you will have to fight your way through all of Devil’s Tusk, taking over each POI as you go, with each one having its own take back mechanic. This instance will be intended for max level players, will take multiple hours to complete, and provides some awesome rewards upon completion. This is the first 20-player instance that we have announced so far, but it is not the only one that will be in the game at launch.

Overall, these additions represent a huge expansion of playable space in Firefall. As mentioned, Sertao and Devil’s Tusk are both about the same size as your current playable area meaning the playable PvE area is almost tripling from what you have now, with all of it being populated by combinations of ARES Jobs, ARES Missions, and dynamic content. We can’t wait for you to experience it in-game.

We hope you enjoyed this look into the expansion of the world of Firefall. Today is an exciting day for us as we discuss not only these additions, but also our plans for the launch of Firefall. On Thursday, we will have a special edition of our Path to Launch blog series in which we reveal a new system which will play a huge part in regulating the economy of Firefall. We’ve also still got some more exciting new content to talk about in the coming weeks, including Open World PvP, so stay tuned! Until then, we’ll see you in game!
